Gallup’s annual survey of Americans to determine which professions were perceived as ethical and honest in 2014 revealed that nursing ranked at the top of the list.
Eighty percent of Americans rated nurses as “high” or “very high,” beating medical doctors and pharmacists by 15 percentage points.
Gallup has asked Americans to participate in this survey since 1990. Americans have perceived the nursing profession as the most honest and ethical profession since it was included in the survey in 1999. Only once, in 2001, did nurses lose the number one spot to firefighters.
Congressmen, on the other hand, were perceived as the least honest and ethical, with only seven percent of Americans approving of them.
